The requirement for sorting materials according to various aspects comes in various levels of production and recycling processes. It may be required to sort the material by size or by type of the material. Customers often require the removal of metal contaminants from waste destined for further processing, or their detection. For using metal separators or metal detectors, it is necessary to make a nonmagnetic zone at the installation place.
The separator of magnetic metals can be used for separation of metal components out of the conveyed waste. The type of the separator is selected according to the frequency of metal components in the waste. It can be installed either stationary magnet, wherein the operator must manually remove metal parts, or with a magnet with rotating belt and automatic cleaning, where metal parts are brought out away automatically. Other types of magnetic separators are drum separators or magnetic drum placed in a belt conveyor.
Separators of magnetic metals are used for removing metals from conveying free flowing or lumpy material. The magnetic power must be considered with regard to the height of the separated layer of material and technological separation needs. The magnetic power is determined by type of used magnets. For standard separation are used classical permanent magnets and for very strong magnetic power are used rare earth magnets NdB. Another option is to use electromagnetic separator, where the magnetic field is generated by an induction coil, where the current flows. If necessary, it is possible to switch off the magnetic field.
